High Hopes...for an Alaskan visit

"Wedding Day" Original Fabric on Wood piece in the shop now.
I love making my own handmade wedding gifts when friends and family get hitched. Thought I would make one for the shop. Also, I have had many request (usually by the couple) in my etsy shop for an original wedding piece depicting them on their special day or as a happy couple. Don't know why but I just love making them!

"Lil Bacon" - Original Fabric on Wood piece in the shop and part of my Mod Kitchen Collection
We tend to eat turkey bacon here at my house for the occasional breakfast or BLT. This one is for all you Bacon Lovers out there!

London and I played together the other morning. I usually love weekends when the hubby is home and doesn't have to work. He snapped a few shots of us, doing what we do. London is playing with playdoh. We get out all of his letter magnets and punch then intot he playdoh for the reverse letter...Oh so fun.

Now..yes I am in my PJ and planting seeds in my seed starter. Many are popping up already and are just waiting for the dump truck of good dirt to arrive...oh and the warm weather.
I did plant 2 blackberry bushes and 2 raspberry plants yesterday. Going to order my blueberry bushes in a few weeks and we will be that much closer to wonderful homemade goodies!

I am getting ready for a show in Rock Hill on Sat. My etsy shop will be a bit bare for a few hours (all but my prints). Hoping to sell a bunch as I would love to be able to buy a plane ticket to go visit my sister in Alaska (she leaves in about a month to go back for 6 months). I rarely get to go on trips far far away and I just know I would love to visit Alaska. Once London was born and I quit my job we have been on a very tight budget. Keeping my fingers crossed that my plan works out...maybe I will get to go in August. I've got high HOPES!

Slightly Cabin Feverish

Oh Goodness, we have had some long days lately. I think London is adjusting to being 2 by getting into everything he is not supposed to get into. Yesterday we had an "undress his self and poop all over his crib during nap time" day. I think I bleached almost his entire room and washed everything he was wearing and everything in his crib (minus the ABC book I threw away) twice on the hottest hot my washer would wash. And of course we had an emergency bath. It brought me to tears and my hands were still shaking 45 mins later but what's a mom to do. Life goes on and there are other things to deal with. I am hoping this will NEVER happen again, and if it does we may just be giving up nap time (since he just plays and sings when in his crib anyway). Now that I have grossed you all out here are some fun pics from the week. (sorry)

Woody checking out my new piece. The cats come running from all points in the yard to get in the picture or cast a shadow- so funny.

"Kiss my Grits" - New fabric on wood piece in the shop...here
My husband loves grit (I like them too) but he really likes them. This one is for you babe!

Granny and Grandaddy watch London for me the other day so I could get a haircut (yay). He loves going over there and makes himself right at home....sometimes a little too much.

Playing the piano with Granny - which he is really good at!

Still playing...he sits there for sometime 20-30 mins at a time and plunks away. Makes me wish we had a piano sometimes. I think we will someday...someday.

Ice cream time!

Grandaddy and London have a special ice cream bond.

Nothing better then sitting on the step and eating ice cream.

Now for the latest on my future garden...her are some seeds I ordered on etsy this week.
Who knew that you could order organic seeds there too...I love etsy and love supporting individuals. I will still be ordering seeds and a few blueberry bushes from burpee this year but check these out from HomeGrownHealthy

I have been looking for the Purple Opal Basil everywhere...love throwing these leaves directly into a salad! YUM

That is all for now...oh and did I mention my husband leaves for a month next week on business...talk about cabin fever. One day at a time...right?

Garden Plans '09

Here is a sneak peek of our garden plans for 2009. When we moved here in May 2006 I was only a few months pregnant and it was super hot outside...so we had no garden that year which made me sad. I was working full time and commuting 81 miles a day so really I had NO energy for digging around in the dirt by the time I got home.
The next year we tilled up a small patch where our herb garden resides now. It was so dry the summer of 2007 that we barely got any veggies. The deer would come and eat our green tomatoes and I let them b/c I could only imagine how thirsty and hungry they were.
Last year we planted some Hot red peppers in planters and I think a tomato plant or two and then converted our once patch of garden into a permanent herb garden. I cook with herbs all the time and it is just outside my front door so I just love it.
Here is a look at our future plans. Hopefully we will get it all going this season so I can post a lucious garden with plenty of harvest!
My hearty rosemary that we have had for about 2 years now...I cook with it all the time!

Right now the herb garden is under a cover of leaves. I purposely let the leaves hang out this winter just incase some of the herbs make it through the winter. So far it looks like the sage, parsley and thyme are still hanging in there.

View from our driveway looking down upon our garden layout. We have a lot of work to do still. we have to round up the area, then till it and then fill it with a few truck loads of top soil. Not to mention we have to build up the wall since this is the sunniest spot of of our yard but it is down hill.

We have split rail fence on 3 sides of our yard and these are some extra. We are going to try to build the wall around the garden with these and Scott is going to sink some poles on the side that will be the tallest and is at the bottom of the hill..hope it works.

This is a little patch that the original builder/owner of our house planted a bunch of bulbs. I love bulbs but I plan on digging up this spot and planting sweet potatoes. If you have never seen sweet potatoes in the ground they make a beautiful ground cover. They have lush green leaves and these beautiful purple flowers. Then you just dig up the sweet potatoes and usually you will have enough to share! :)

View into your compost box...this will be so fantastic once mixed in with our garden dirt. Plus we feel so good about composting because that is that much less that goes into the landfill.

Compost box chillin with it's lid closed.

This is the wall the runs along our front walkway. This spot does get a lot of sun all year and we considered putting our garden here at one point but decided upon the other area. Instead we are planning on lining a row of blueberry bushes on the inside of this wall. Oh so yummy to have fresh blueberries on my cereal in the morning.

One more peek at our garden lay out. I really want to do a patch garden again but my husband is dead set on rows. I think he has agreed to put the viney plants (squash, cucumbers etc.) up in the top of the garden that is at the highest point in a patch. We may even build a trelis on one side for some of them to venture up.
I am so excited to get my hands dirty and get this thing going finally this year. I will keep you posted on the progress...wish me luck!
